WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) staunchly defended Israeli democracy and sovereignty in a speech delivered on the Senate floor. McConnell emphasized the importance of supporting Israel, stating, "The Jewish state of Israel deserves an ally that acts like one." He further expressed that "The people of Israel, at home and in captivity, deserve America’s support."

McConnell highlighted the need to respect Israel as a sovereign, democratic country, stating, "And Israel’s unity government and security cabinet deserve the deference befitting a sovereign, democratic country." He condemned terrorist organizations like Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad as the primary obstacles to peace in the region.

The Senator criticized foreign interference in Israeli affairs, stating, "And foreign observers who cannot keep these clear distinctions straight ought to refrain from weighing in." McConnell also addressed concerns about calls to remove the democratically elected leader of Israel, calling such actions "grotesque and hypocritical."

In his remarks, McConnell emphasized the importance of respecting Israel's autonomy and democratic processes, stating, "Israel is not a colony of America whose leaders serve at the pleasure of the party in power in Washington. Only Israel’s citizens should have a say in who runs their government. This is the very definition of democracy and sovereignty."

McConnell concluded by asserting, "Either we respect their decisions, or we disrespect their democracy." The Senator's words underscore a strong defense of Israeli democracy and sovereignty in the face of external pressures and criticisms.
